Abdul Hamid II commissioned the mosque, which was built from 1884 to 1886. The infobox names Sarkis Balyan as architect, but the article body names none. The infobox gives Ottoman architecture, and the text describes a combination of Neo-Gothic style and classical Ottoman motifs. The plan is rectangular, with a single minaret. The article gives no dimensions or materials.

It stands in the Yıldız neighborhood of Beşiktaş, on the way to Yıldız Palace. It was the sultan's Friday mosque, and a failed 1905 bombing outside it killed 26 people.

A four-year restoration cost 27 million Turkish liras. The article gives the reopening as August 4, 2017 in the text, while its source is dated 2016. The article names no owner and no heritage listing.
