Minoru Yamasaki led the design, with Jorge Mir Valls and Rafael Coll Pujol. Unión de Explosivos Río Tinto awarded it in 1975 as part of the AZCA development. Construction began in late 1982, stalled, and restarted in 1985 under new owners, with Fernando Alas directing the work. It opened in December 1988.

The roof is 515 feet (157 m) above ground. Floor counts differ, with 46 above ground in the infobox and 43 in the lead and official breakdown. The white aluminum facade has chamfered corners and windows in pairs, and the top two floors are windowless. A wide round arch marks the entrance. The article names no style.

It was the tallest building in Madrid from 1988 to 2007. Pontegadea Inmobiliaria, part of Inditex, bought it for 400 million euros in 2011.
