The Stahl House, also known as Case Study House No. 22, is a Modernist home at 1635 Woods Drive in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles. Pierre Koenig designed it, working from preliminary concepts by his client, C.H. Buck Stahl. Construction began in May 1959 at a cost of $37,500, and the house was completed by May 1960. It was part of the Case Study Houses program.
The steel-framed house covers about 2,200 square feet and is cantilevered ten feet over the hillside. It has two bedrooms, a flat roof and floor-to-ceiling plate glass on three sides. The glass panels were the largest available at the time.
Julius Shulman's 1960 photograph of two women seated in the house, overlooking the city at dusk, made it famous. It became a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1999 and joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
