St. Patrick's Cathedral stands in the Saddar area of central Karachi, near Empress Market. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi. Father Karl Wagner, a Jesuit, conceived the design, and the lay brothers George Kluver and Herman Lau supervised construction. The style is Gothic Revival. The cathedral measures 52 by 22 meters and holds at least 1,500 worshippers.

The first church in Sindh, St. Patrick's Church, was built here in 1845 as a Carmelite mission. Sources give different years for the groundbreaking of the present building, in 1878 or 1879, and it was consecrated on April 24, 1881.

The stained-glass windows by Franz Mayer of Munich show 24 biblical and Jesuit scenes. A bomb exploded inside on December 22, 1998 and partly damaged the interior. It became a protected monument in 2003.
