St. Mary's Church, or Mariukirkjan, stands at Mariugøta 4 in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. It is a parish of the Roman Catholic Church, in the Diocese of Copenhagen. Catholicism was present in the Faroes from 999. After the Danish Reformation, the last Catholic bishop in the islands was executed in 1538.
In 1931 the priests E. G. Boekenoogen and Thomas King began restoring the Catholic presence. Franciscan sisters arrived that year, and a small church was consecrated in a rented house on May 23. In 1933 the sisters built the new St. Mary's Church alongside the new St. Francis school, and it was consecrated on June 1.
The sisters' school and church were built together as one project.
