Construction of Senlis Cathedral began around 1151 under Bishop Pierre, and the infobox gives 1153 as the groundbreaking. The site had held three churches and a baptistery since the late 4th or early 5th century. The central western portal was completed in 1160, and Archbishop Guillaume of Reims consecrated the unfinished church on June 16, 1191. The article names no architect for the 12th-century work.
The style is early Gothic, with flamboyant Gothic side facades added after 1504. Martin Chambiges built the southern transept portal, and his son Pierre continued it. The church is 246 feet (75 m) long and 98 feet (30 m) wide. A lightning fire in 1504 destroyed the framework and collapsed the vaults.
Vaults were raised about 20 feet (6 m) during the restoration of 1506 to 1515. It is now a parish church, and it was listed as a historic monument in 1840.
