Santa Maria dei Carmini stands in the Dorsoduro district of Venice, beside the former Scuola Grande di Santa Maria del Carmelo. Groundbreaking was in 1286, it was consecrated in 1348, and it was completed in 1514. Sebastiano Mariani of Lugano rebuilt the chancel and side chapels from 1507 to 1514. Giuseppe Sardi designed the bell tower. The style is Venetian Gothic.
The facade is brick and marble, with sculpted lunettes by Giovanni Buora and images of Elisha and Elijah on the roofline. The bell tower is topped by a 1982 Madonna statue by Romano Vio, replacing an original destroyed by lightning.
Inside are Cima da Conegliano's Adoration of the Shepherds and Tintoretto's Presentation of Jesus at the Temple. Sebastiano Ricci painted the nave ceiling fresco in 1709.
