Palais Coburg is a Neoclassical palace in Vienna. Karl Schleps designed it in 1839 for Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and it was built between 1840 and 1845. It stands on the Braunbastei, the Brown Bastion, which was part of Vienna's city defenses from 1555.
Its central portico has many freestanding columns. These earned the palace the nickname "castle of asparagus," or Spargelburg. It belonged to the Kohary branch of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and its last private owner was Sarah Aurelia Halasz, widow of Prince Philipp Sachsen-Coburg.
The family sold the palace in the 1970s. After extensive renovation it became a five-star boutique hotel with 33 suites. It hosted the signing of the Iran nuclear deal on July 14, 2015.
