The Old Cathedral in Linz, originally the Jesuit Church of Ignatius, stands near the former Jesuits' College at the south end of the Hauptplatz. Pietro Francesco Carlone designed it for the Jesuits, and it was built from 1669 to 1683 in the Baroque style. The exterior is plain, with two towers topped by onion domes. The interior is lavish, with pink marble columns and three side chapels on each side of the wide nave.

It became the cathedral of the Diocese of Linz in 1785, and the function moved to the New Cathedral in 1909. Anton Bruckner was organist here from 1856 to 1868, and his Mass No. 1 premiered here in 1864. The Baroque organ by Franz Xaver Krismann was altered at Bruckner's request.

The Bruckner Festival is held in the church every year.
