Novara Cathedral stands on Piazza della Repubblica in Novara, Piedmont. It is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and is the seat of the Bishop of Novara. The original church was begun in the eleventh century and consecrated in 1132. It was demolished in the mid-nineteenth century. Alessandro Antonelli built the current Neoclassical cathedral from 1863 to 1869.
The mosaic floor of the presbytery and a chapel dedicated to Saint Syrus were carried over from the earlier church. A separate but connected Palaeo-Christian baptistery from the fourth or fifth century stands nearby.
A 12-year restoration was completed in November 2009. The composers Pietro Generali and Antonio Cagnoni both served as maestri di cappella there.
