The Mezhyhirya Savior-Transfiguration Monastery stood on the right bank of the Dnieper about 6 miles (10 kilometers) north of Vyshhorod, in the Mezhyhirya ravine. Its founding date is unknown. It was attacked by Crimean Tatars in 1482 and restored in 1520. By 1555 it had four churches. The Gate Church of Saints Peter and Paul was built in 1604, and the Transfiguration Cathedral between 1609 and 1611. Bohdan Khmelnytsky became its patron in 1656.

Fires destroyed much of the complex in 1676 and 1717. The monastery was closed by the Russian government in 1786, and in 1798 it opened the first faience factory in Ukraine. Ivan Hryhorovych-Barskyi designed some of its buildings.

In 1935 the Soviet Politburo ordered the monastery demolished, and the buildings were photographed before they were pulled down in 1936. Today only a water well remains.
