Kokořín Castle stands in Kokořín, in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. Hynek Berka of Dubá had it built in the first half of the 14th century. Hussite troops captured and destroyed it in 1426, and after heavy damage in the Hussite Wars it stood in ruins. Emperor Ferdinand II classed it among the "cursed castles," which were not allowed to be maintained.
In 1894 Václav Špaček bought the ruins, and his son Jan had them rebuilt in a neo-Gothic style. From 1911 to 1916 the architect Eduard Sochor gave the castle its present form.
It became a national cultural monument in 2001 and was returned to the Špaček family in 2006. The Kokořínsko – Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area takes its name from the castle.
