Gran Madre di Dio stands at Via Cassia 1 in Rome. Pope Pius XI built it to commemorate the 1,500th anniversary of the Council of Ephesus. Cesare Bazzani was the architect, and Clemente Busiri Vici carried out the construction. Work began in 1931, the church was completed in 1933, and it was consecrated in 1937. Pius XI made it a parish on December 1, 1933.

The Neoclassical facade has a portico with a triangular pediment on two Corinthian columns, with the papal coat of arms in the pediment. Two small bell towers stand at the sides. A large dome rises on an octagonal drum with eight windows, topped by an octagonal lantern.

Inside, the plan is a Greek cross with a semicircular apse and five arched windows. Federico Morgante painted the apse fresco. It became a titular church in 1965.
