The Gothenburg Opera House stands at Lilla Bommen in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was designed by Jan Izikowitz. Construction began in September 1989, and it was inaugurated in October 1994. Up to 6,000 local people contributed to the project.

The building is 525 feet (160 meters) long, 279 feet (85 meters) wide at its widest and 105 feet (32 meters) high, with a floor area of 28,700 square meters. The auditorium is in a classical style and has 1,276 seats. The orchestra pit holds about 100 musicians. The main stage has four movable platforms, each rated for 15 tons, and five assembled stage sets can be stored at once.

The house is shared by opera, ballet, musicals and operettas, and it brought together activities previously spread across six locations. It hosted Melodifestivalen in 2000.
