Gesù e Maria stands at Via del Corso 45 in the Campo Marzio district of Rome, facing the Baroque facade of San Giacomo in Augusta. It was built for the Discalced Augustinians on the site of a church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Augusta, owned by the Colonna family. Carlo Buzio designed it, and construction ran from 1633 to 1635. It was consecrated in 1636.
Carlo Rainaldi built the travertine facade from 1671 to 1674 and designed the Baroque interior, including the main altar. Giorgio Bolognetti, bishop of Rieti, patronized the marble decoration from 1678 to 1690. The church was reconsecrated in 1675.
The nave is about 27 meters long. Giacinto Brandi painted the vault and the main altarpiece, the Coronation of the Virgin, in 1679. Pope Paul VI made it a cardinal deaconry in 1967.
