Falak-ol-Aflak, also called Shapur Khast Castle, sits on a hill of the same name in Khorramabad, the capital of Lorestan province in Iran. Its Persian name is often translated as The Sky of the Skies. It was built during the Sasanian era, between 224 and 651, and the style is Sasanian. The article names no builders.
The foundations measure about 984 by 1,312 feet (300 by 400 meters), and the structure reaches up to 131 feet (40 meters) above the surrounding area. It is built from stone and wood. Archaeologists identified a two-layered rampart with twelve towers, of which only two remain. The Khorramabad River runs along its eastern and southwestern sides.
It was used as a prison until 1968 and then converted into a museum complex. The article reports that strikes in March 2026 damaged parts of the site and destroyed its museum.
