Crewe station is a major junction on the West Coast Main Line in Cheshire, 158 miles (254 kilometers) north of London Euston. It opened on 4 July 1837 on the Grand Junction Railway. The buildings on platforms 5 and 6 date from the rebuild of 1867, which was supervised by William Baker. The station was enlarged to eight through platforms between 1903 and 1907.
The 1867 buildings have a mirrored design, with bowed projections for the platform inspectors' offices. Their listing describes vivid polychromy and greybeard keystones. They were listed Grade II in 2016 as rare surviving examples of mid-nineteenth-century junction station buildings.
The station now has 12 platforms and 14 tracks. Eight train operating companies call here, the highest number for any station in the United Kingdom, and it handled 3.39 million passengers in 2024 and 2025.
