Córdoba Cathedral stands on Independencia Street in the historic center of Córdoba, on the west side of Plaza San Martín. It is the colonial cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Córdoba. Construction began with Gregorio Ferreira and Juan Rodríguez in 1598. Giovanni Battista Primoli designed the plan, a Latin cross basilica modeled on the Gesù in Rome. It was consecrated in 1706. Andrea Bianchi completed the facade in 1729, and the Franciscan friar Vicente Muñoz designed the dome in 1758.
The style mixes Renaissance elements, Spanish colonial Baroque, Neoclassicism and Mudéjar details. A dome flanked by four octagonal turrets sits atop the church. The interior has Jesuit-carved cedar doors and an altar of embossed silver from colonial Bolivia.
It was designated a National Historic Monument in 1941.
