The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is at 3501 Camp Bowie Boulevard in Fort Worth, Texas. It opened on January 21, 1961, as the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art, and it took its present name in 2011. The newspaper publisher Amon G. Carter Sr. assembled the original collection, which centered on the work of Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. More than 400 works by the two artists form the core of its Old West art.

Philip Johnson designed the original building. It has a two-story portico with five arches, clad in Texas shellstone. A 1977 addition by Johnson and John Burgee more than doubled the museum's size. In 2001 Johnson's firm replaced the earlier additions with a larger structure, and it reopened on October 21, 2001.

The collection includes more than 350,000 photographic works. Admission is free.
